Renunciation of Citizenship

To renounce Pakistani Nationality, the applicants would have to surrender all of their valid and expired passports as well as their national identification cards.

The guidelines are as follows:
  • Pakistanis under the age of 21 cannot renounce their citizenship independently. However, their names can be included in the renunciation application of their father.
  • US $60 fee is accepted in the form of credit/debit card payment, if appearing in person. If the documents are sent by mail, a $60 money order payable to the Consulate General of Pakistan, Chicago must be sent. 
  • Written and signed request with reason for renunciation of citizenship is required.
  • Notarized copy of US passport and naturalization certificate (If acquired) to be presented.
  • Form X (click here to download) completed and duly signed by the applicant. Form will be attested by the Consulate General of Pakistan. Those sending their  cases by mail should enclose notarized copy of Form X .
  • All Pakistani passports (valid and expired) along with one copy of each passport are required.
  • Seven (7) photos of the applicant with a white background taken within last six months to be provided. All Photos must be cut out in size of ‘2’ by ‘2’ inches.
  • If the applicant is a minor, please provide date and place of birth of the child with original documentary evidence such as Form “B” or Form “S” or NICOP/Child Registration Certificate.
  • Original CNIC/NICOP to be submitted to the Consulate General at the time of renunciation application. The CNIC/NICOP will have to be canceled online by the applicant at website id.nadra.gov.pk The applicant would need to submit Payment Receipt of cancellation of CNIC/NICOP along with the renunciation application. 
  • In case of non-possession of NADRA issued CNIC/NICOP (valid/expired) or Machine-Readable-Passport, the applicant will have to prove that he/she is citizen of Pakistan under the relevant provisions of law and provide evidence in this regard. He/she may submit CNIC/NICOP after acquiring it from NADRA.
  • An email and active contact number of the applicant needs to be written on Form X, enabling authorities in Pakistan to contact the applicant directly if additional information or documents are required.
