Consul General attends Seminar on Youm-e-Istehsal-e-Kashmir

In observance of the Youm-e-Istehsal in Chicago, members of the Pakistani-American community and Kashmir Solidarity Front organized a Seminar. Consul General Tariq Karim was the keynote speaker.

Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General highlighted various dimensions of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute and the worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) since August 5, 2019. He highlighted that, to suppress Kashmiris’ legitimate struggle, India has unleashed worst form of state-terrorism and instituted demographic changes in IIOJK in contravention of international law and the UNSC resolutions.

While reaffirming Pakistan’s moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of IIOJK, the Consul General highlighted that the international community has a responsibility to act to alleviate the sufferings of the people of IIOJK and settle the Jammu & Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and the wishes of the people of Kashmir.

The panelists in the Seminar also highlighted the blatant human rights violations in IIOJK, including mass killings, enforced disappearances, torture, political repression and suppression of freedom of speech. They rejected India’s illegal and unilateral steps in IIOJK and demanded an early resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute under the UN Resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people. They also reaffirmed their full support to the Kashmir cause.
