Consul General Tariq Karim attended the flag-raising ceremony and Pakistan Day Parade in Madison, Wisconsin. The ceremony, which was part of the month-long Independence Day celebrations across the Midwestern States, was attended by members of the Pakistani-American community and elected officials. Consul General Tariq Karim hoisted the Pakistan flag and cut the Pakistan Day cake. The Consul General also received a proclamation, signed by the Governor of Wisconsin, declaring August 14 as Independence Day of Pakistan.
Speaking at the occasion, the Consul General thanked the Pakistani-American community in Wisconsin for organizing the festivities. He highlighted: the historic importance of Independence Day; Pakistan as an important business and tourist destination; and role of the vibrant Pakistani-American community in the socio-economic development of the two countries. He encouraged the community members to continue to play their role as bridge-builders.
During his visit to Madison, the Consul General also interacted with members of the Pakistani-American community and a group of Pakistani students from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
