Consul General Tariq Karim attended the opening ceremony of Islamic Association of Greater Detroit (IAGD) mosque and community centre in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The event was also attended by a large number of community members and elected officials, including Lt. Governor Garlin Glichrist II, State Senator Michael Webber, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and Rochester Hills Mayor Bryan Barnett. Speaking at the occasion, the Consul General commended the Greater Detroit community and management of IAGD mosque for their efforts to complete the massive expansion project which will make it one of the largest mosques in the U.S. He stated that the mosque and center will not only serve as a place of worship for members of the Muslim community in Michigan but also as a hub for educational, social, and charitable activities to benefit the entire community. The Consul General also highlighted the contribution made by the Pakistani-American community to the socio-economic development of the U.S. and Pakistan. During his interactions with the elected officials, the Consul General highlighted the importance of expanding mutually beneficial trade and economic partnership and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Michigan. He also interacted with community members and businessmen and responded to their queries related to consular services and promoting businesses.
