Chand Raat Celebrated in Chicago

Pakistani Ladies Association in Midwest U.S. (PLAM), in collaboration with the Consulate General of Pakistan in Chicago, hosted a Chand Raat event to celebrate Eid al-Adha in Chicago. The event was attended by a large number of community members, women leaders, Pakistani students, members of Consular Corps and civil society.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Tariq Karim appreciated PLAM for their ongoing collaboration with the Pakistani-American community and other communities living in the Midwest to promote Pakistani culture and shared values. He emphasized the significance of Eid al-Adha and its spirit of sacrifice, forbearance and compassion. He also commended the initiative to celebrate Eid together and share happiness, which provides an opportunity to promote greater harmony and understanding.
 
The Consul General lauded the contribution of Pakistani-American women as leaders, innovators and change makers and encouraged them to continue to play their bridge-building role in fostering closer ties between the two people and countries.
 
In her remarks, Patron of PLAM Mrs. Aasma Tariq briefed about PLAM’s aims and objectives which, inter alia, include promotion of Pakistani culture and soft image through events like Chand Raat by showcasing Pakistani culture and shared values, strengthening of the role of Pakistani-American women and contributing in the promotion of bilateral relations. Earlier, President PLAM Ms. Zar Zahid welcomed the guests.
 
During the event, a documentary on how Eid is celebrated in Pakistan was also shown. Guests enjoyed traditional Pakistani cuisine and music. Various items showcased to project Pakistani culture included Pakistani clothes, jewelry, mehndi, bangles, paan etc. The event also included various entertainment segments and activities throughout the evening.
