Consul General Tariq Karim visited Detroit (Michigan) to attend the annual event of APPNA Michigan Chapter. The event was attended by around 400 people including a large number of community members, especially physicians and other professionals, and elected officials. Appeal for flood victims in Pakistan was one of the key themes of the event.
Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General highlighted the contribution made by the Pakistani-American community & professionals in the socio-economic development of the two countries and their bridge-building role. He lauded APPNA for their charitable and capacity building work over the years, both in the US and Pakistan, and encouraged them to play an active role in promoting knowledge, expertise and technology. He invited entrepreneurs to benefit from liberal investment polices and business opportunities in Pakistan.
The Consul General highlighted the unprecedented scale of devastation caused by catastrophic climate-induced floods in Pakistan. He emphasized the need for the international community to support Pakistan tackle this calamity, especially in view of the fact that Pakistani was bearing the brunt of climate change despite its negligible contribution to global carbon emission. The Consul General appealed to the members of Pakistani-American community to come forward and generously donate for flood victims in Pakistan.
During his visit to Detroit, Consul General Tariq Karim also met with Congressman Dan Kildee, Deputy Chief Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, including floods in Pakistan.
