A group of students from the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy visited the Consulate General and met Consul General Tariq Karim. The group also consisted of government officials/international students from different countries, including Pakistan.
Consul General, Tariq Karim welcomed the students and briefed them on contemporary diplomatic practice, the workings of the Consulate and his priorities as Consul General. He, inter alia, highlighted: Pakistan’s geo-strategic importance, its achievements and potential; various dimensions of Pakistan’s Foreign Policy; significance of Pakistan-US partnership and the role of vibrant Pakistani-American community.
The Consul General highlighted that Pakistan’s geo-strategic location, its market size and demographic dividend, rich human and natural resources, liberal investment policies and rapidly growing tech sector have made Pakistan as an important business and investment destination in the world.
He also spoke on climate change and the devastation caused by the recent climate-induced floods in Pakistan.
The Consul General highlighted the importance of the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the United States and stated that the two countries have immense potential to further expand their ties in diverse fields.
He also briefed about the rapidly growing trade and people-to-people linkages between Pakistan and the Midwest region. He highlighted the contribution of Pakistani-American community in the socio-economic development of the two countries and their bridge-building role.
The Consul General, Tariq Karim, also responded to various questions related to global politics and economy, international conflicts and role of diplomacy, Pakistan’s economy and culture, role of youth and educational institutions.
He urged the students to continue their efforts for achieving academic excellence while playing an active role in the society.
