Consul General visits Cleveland, participates in Groundbreaking Ceremony of Pakistan Cultural Garden
Consul General Tariq Karim, who is on a visit to Cleveland, Ohio, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony of the Pakistan Cultural Garden, a new addition to the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.
The ceremony was attended by members of the Pakistani-American community including the Pakistani American League, local officials and management of the Cleveland Cultural Gardens.
Cleveland Cultural Gardens, founded in 1916, is a collection of public cultural gardens featuring over 30 countries which represent the diverse communities that make up Cleveland.
The Pakistan Cultural Garden project plans to develop beautiful thematic mini gardens, surrounding a replica of Minar-e-Pakistan with Pakistan’s flag flying high at the top.
Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General lauded the efforts of the Pakistan Cultural Garden’s Board and the dynamic Pakistani community in Ohio for realizing their initiative of a Pakistan Cultural Garden and becoming a part of this global cultural village. He expressed confidence that upon completion, the garden will represent Pakistan’s historical richness, cultural heritage, hospitality, renowned arts and literature, and promote mutual understanding and friendship through this diverse platform of cultural affinity. This will make the Garden a unique landmark for Pakistani Americans in Ohio, the Midwest region and America as well as visiting Pakistanis. The Consul General assured his full support and assistance to the Pakistani community in Ohio in their future endeavors and encouraged them to continue to play their bridge building role in enhancing mutual cooperation and friendship between the two sides. He also thanked the local authorities for their assistance in setting up the Pakistan Cultural Garden.
Later in the evening, the Consul General attended a reception hosted by the Pakistani-American community in Cleaveland. In his interaction, the Consul General briefed the community members about his priorities and engagements as Consul General, and urged them to continue to actively contribute in the socio-economic development of the two countries and promotion of soft image of Pakistan.
During his visit to Cleveland, Consul General Tariq Karim interacted with Pakistani students. He briefed them on a range of important issues while encouraging them to focus on enhancing their learning abilities and active engagement with the local community.
The President of Global Cleveland, and Cleveland city officials separately called on the Consul General. During these interactions, the Consul General highlighted the importance of bilateral partnership, business/investment opportunities in Pakistan, the vibrant role of the Pakistani-American community, and his priorities as Consul General to enhance mutually beneficial partnership between Pakistan and the Midwest region. He underlined the need to expand cooperation in trade and economy, energy, climate change, health and education. The possibility of sister city arrangement and further links between academic institutions/think tanks was also discussed.
