Consul General Tariq Karim assumes charge of his Office

He is a senior career diplomat with wide ranging experience in different capacities that include assignments both at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Pakistan’s Missions abroad.

Prior to his appointment as Consul General, Mr. Tariq served as Director General for Economic Diplomacy and Organization for Islamic Cooperation (OIC &ED) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Islamabad. As DG (OIC & ED), he was the focal point on issues related to Economic Diplomacy while dealing with a wide range of multilateral issues. He was also Pakistan’s Commissioner for D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation.

Earlier, Mr. Tariq served as Political Counselor, Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, India where he dealt with a wide range of issues.

His other overseas assignments include serving as the Deputy Head of Mission/Counselor at the Embassy of Pakistan, The Hague, and Deputy Permanent Representative to the Organization for Prohibition of Chemical Weapon (OPCW). He also worked as Facilitator/Chair on Article 11 of CWC related to International Cooperation and negotiated consensus among State Parties to the CWC.

He also served in Embassy of Pakistan in Dushanbe and Moscow, in different capacities.

At the Headquarters, he worked as Assistant Director (United Nations) and Assistant Director (Economic Cooperation Organization/Central Asian Republics). He also worked as Director in the Middle East & Africa Division and Director (China, Japan & Korea).

Mr. Tariq holds a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Environmental Sciences and M.Sc. in Bio Sciences from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. He also holds an M.A in History from University of Punjab and a One-year Postgraduate Foreign Service Program in Diplomatic Studies from University of Oxford, UK, with distinctions. He is married.
