Consul General addresses the CAPRC Seminar at Northern Illinois University

Consul General Tariq Karim attends CAPRC event at Northern Illinois University, Naperville

Consul General Tariq Karim attended an event organized by the Central Asian Productivity Research Center (CAPRC), a think-tank based in Chicago, at the Northern Illinois University. Speaking at the occasion, the Consul General emphasized Pakistan’s significance as an important business and investment destination. He, inter alia, highlighted: Pakistan’s geo-strategic location at the confluence of South, West and Central Asia; Pakistan’s market size and presence of large pool of trained professionals and workforce; Shifting of Government’s focus from geo-politics to geo-economics with greater emphasis on peaceful neighborhood, regional connectivity and economic development as well as liberalization of investment regime in Pakistan. Referring to the humanitarian and economic situation in Afghanistan, the Consul General emphasized the need for the international community to engage with Afghanistan. He stated that India’s illegal and unilateral actions of August 5, 2019 in IIOJK were major setback for peace and stability in South Asia. The Consul General mentioned that steps such as opening of various sectors for investment, improving Ease of Doing Business, and digitization of economy have created an attractive climate for investment in Pakistan. In this regard, he highlighted the rapid emergence of Pakistan’s technology ecosystem on the international stage with its thriving start-ups which have helped Pakistan boost its IT exports. He also briefed the participants about Pakistan’s potential as leading tourist destination in the world, as figured out by various tourism, media organizations, and travelers.

The Consul General highlighted the importance of Pakistan-US partnership and need for the two countries to expand their business ties in diverse fields. He also lauded the role of Pakistani- American community as a bridge between the two counties. The Consul General also encouraged investors, businessmen and professionals to benefit from business opportunities and liberal investment regime in Pakistan.
