Consul General’s virtual interaction with President Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce

Consul General Tariq Karim had a virtual meeting with Mr. Jack Lavin, President & CEO of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, today. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Jan Kostner, Senior Vice President of the Chamber and Dr. Tariq Butt, co-chair Lahore-Chicago Sister-City Committee.

Mr. Jack Lavin welcomed the Consul General and expressed his desire to establish institutional linkages between the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce and the Consulate General to bolster trade and economic relations between the two sides.

Consul General Tariq Karim, inter alia, highlighted: economic diplomacy as a key priority for him to promote Pakistan’s economic partnership with the U.S. Midwest region; shifting of Government of Pakistan’s focus from geo-politics to geo-economics and business opportunities in Pakistan; and, the scope for the two sides to enhance mutually beneficial economic collaboration in different fields. He invited the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce as a leading business institution in Chicagoland area to play its pivotal role in promoting trade and economic relations between the two sides. In this regard, he assured the Consulate General’s full support.

Dr. Tariq Butt, while highlighting the need to promote economic and commercial ties between the two sides, stated that there was a sizeable presence of U.S. companies in Pakistan and trade volume between Pakistan and the U.S. Midwest region was growing.

The two sides agreed to work together by taking further steps to promote business and trade relations.
