The Consul General attends Pakistan #IndependenceDay Event
Consul General Tariq Karim attended an event organized by the Pakistani-American community in Illinois to celebrate the 75th #IndependenceDay of Pakistan. The ceremony, which was part of the month-long Independence Day celebrations across the Midwestern States, was attended by a large number of community members and local dignitaries and elected officials.
Speaking at the occasion, the Consul General, inter alia, highlighted: the historical significance of the Pakistan #IndependenceDay and idea of Pakistan as envisioned by Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah; achievements Pakistan has made since independence; government’s socio-economic agenda and successful polices and reforms that led to macroeconomic stability, effective handling of the pandemic, and Ease of Doing Business. Lauding the contribution made by the vibrant Pakistani-American community, he encouraged them to continue to play their role as a bridge between the two countries and assured them of consulate’s full support. He also highlighted various schemes launched by the government to facilitate overseas Pakistanis such as Roshan Digital Account (RDA). Speaking on the deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), as reflected in the recent shameful incident of snatching of the body of great Kashmiri leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani from his family, he emphasized the need for the international community to act to alleviate the sufferings of oppressed people of IIOJK who are fighting for their inalienable right-to-self determination.
Referring to the emerging situation in Afghanistan, the Consul General highlighted Pakistan’s critical support to the multinational evacuation effort and its abiding commitment to a peaceful, stable, sovereign and prosperous Afghanistan. He stated that Pakistan has continued proactive diplomacy in recent weeks, interacting with a host of partners in the region and beyond to exchange views/coordinate positions on the way forward to help ensure sustainable peace and stability in Afghanistan-a shared objective of the international community. He also highlighted the need for the international community to positively engage to help address the urgent needs of the Afghan people.
