Consul General Tariq Karim attended the annual MedGlobal Conference held in Chicago. Participants of the event included medical and global health professionals and policy leaders, technology experts, philanthropy leaders and refugee advocates. The Conference deliberated on various threats facing global healthcare – wars, pandemics and climate change.
Consul General Tariq Karim was invited to speak on “Effects of Global Warming and Floods in Pakistan”. Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General highlighted the colossal loss and devastation caused by the catastrophic climate-induced floods in Pakistan. He emphasized the need for the International community to support Pakistan in tackling this unprecedented natural disaster and climate justice, especially in view of the fact that Pakistan was bearing the brunt of climate change despite its negligible contribution to global carbon emission. He also underscored that effects of floods will linger for years to come with enormous resources required for rehabilitation and reconstruction phase.
