Consul General Tariq Karim attended an event to mark the 86th death anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The event, organized by Iqbal Society at Chicago’s East West University, featured prominent speakers honoring Iqbal for his remarkable contributions.
Speaking at the occasion, Consul General Tariq Karim paid rich tribute to the great poet, philosopher, and thinker who has left a lasting impact on the world. He stated that Allama Iqbal envisioned the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent that led to the creation of Pakistan. He elaborated Iqbal’s concept of “Khudi”, “Mard-e-momin” and “Shaheen” and his emphasis on the importance of self-discovery, self-reliance, and spiritual enlightenment.
The Consul General emphasized that Iqbal’s vision, poetry, thoughts, and philosophy have a universal appeal that continues to inspire millions across the world. Stressing the importance of revitalizing Iqbal’s message, the Consul General stated that Iqbal’s teachings are timeless and can offer solutions to contemporary challenges. He thanked the Iqbal Society for keeping the universal message of Allama Iqbal alive in Chicago and beyond.
Other speakers including Dr. Teepu Siddique, President Iqbal Society, and Dr. Wasiullah Khan, Chancellor East-West University, also praised Iqbal’s wisdom shining through his poetry and philosophy.
