The Consulate General of Pakistan in Chicago hosted a Seminar on August 7, 2023, to observe Youm-e-Istehsal, marking the completion of four years since India’s illegal and unilateral actions in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Speakers at the seminar included Consul General Tariq Karim, President of Sound Vision/Justice for All and Executive Producer of Muslim Network TV Mr. Abdul Malik Mujahid, President of Iqbal Society Dr. Teepu Siddique and Kashmiri sympathizer/activist Dr. Emile Unjom.
The speakers expressed serious concern over the worsening humanitarian situation in IIOJK and urged the international community to play an active role in the settlement of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute.
In his remarks, Consul General Tariq Karim highlighted various dimensions of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute and the worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in IIOJK since August 5, 2019. He stated that, to suppress the legitimate struggle of Kashmiris, India has unleashed the worst form of state-terrorism and instituted demographic changes in IIOJK in contravention of international law and the UNSC resolutions.
The Consul General expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of IIOJK while reaffirming the strong resolve of the government and people of Pakistan to continue extending moral, political and diplomatic support to their just and legitimate struggle for right to self-determination. He highlighted that the international community has a responsibility to act to alleviate the sufferings of the people of IIOJK and settle the Jammu & Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN resolutions and the wishes of the people of Kashmir.
Late Mr. K. Rizwan Kadir, prominent community member/Director Kashmir Society and Kashmiri activist, who recently passed away was recognized and honored at the event. A moment of silence was also observed.
Earlier, a 3-day Photographic Exhibition was held at the Consulate, in which photographs depicting the history of the Jammu & Kashmir dispute and the aggravating human rights and humanitarian situation in IIOJK were put on display.
