Consul General attends Iftar event organized by Lahore Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International

Consul General Tariq Karim participated in the Annual Ramadan Celebration and Iftar event hosted by the Lahore Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International (CSCI). The event was attended by a large number of guests including members of the Pakistani-American community and elected/city officials. The Chair of the Lahore Committee of CSCI briefed about their activities and future plans under the Lahore-Chicago Sister City arrangement.
 
Speaking at the occasion, Consul General Tariq Karim extended Ramadan greetings highlighting Ramadan as a month of fasting, self-reflection, compassion, charity and service to fellow human beings. He stressed the importance of the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the United States and stated that the two countries have immense potential to expand their ties in diverse fields. Highlighting his key priorities, the Consul General stated that Pakistan’s partnership with Chicago and the US Midwest region was rapidly growing in trade, investments and people-to-people interactions. He shared that Pakistan’s trade volume with the Midwest had doubled in the last two years. He stated that the Lahore-Chicago Sister City relationship provides an important platform to promote cooperation in diverse fields besides strengthening Chicago’s bond with Pakistan. He also highlighted the contribution made by the vibrant Pakistani-American community in the socio-economic development of Chicago and their bridge-building role.
 
The Consul General reiterated his desire to closely work with the Chicago city government and the CCSI to enhance economic and civic partnership and people-to-people exchanges.
